Description
Sage sausage is a type of fresh pork sausage that is flavored with the herb sage, along with other seasonings.
The sage gives the sausage a distinctively savory and slightly earthy flavor that pairs well with breakfast foods like eggs and pancakes, as well as savory dishes like pasta or casseroles. Sage sausage is often formed into patties or links and then cooked by frying or grilling. It is a popular ingredient in traditional Southern dishes like biscuits and gravy, and is also a common choice for stuffing recipes.
1 lb Sage Sausage
3/4 cup Butter, melted
3/4 cup finely diced onion
1 1/2 cups chopped celery
8 cups soft bread cubes, divided
3 tsp. poultry seasoning
1/4 tsp. black pepper
Fry up the sausage in a deep skillet over medium heat until evenly browned. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
In the skillet combine the melted butter with the sausage drippings until there is 1 cup of it combined.
Cook and stir the onions, celery, until the onion is tender or about 10 min. Stir in 1/3 of the bread cubes.
Pour the onion mixture into a large bowl and stir in the remaining bread cubes, sausage, poultry seasoning, and pepper. Be careful because it is hot.
Mix it well and stuff your turkey or bake in your oven ready dish for 30-40 min at 350 F.
